NEW! Home Buyers can get $7,500 tax credit
You can now take advantage of the Housing & Economic Recovery Act, which was just signed last month. The Feds have taken a big step to revitalize the economy and the Housing Bill Stimulus Bill will have a very positive impact on the Hawaii Real Estate market.
First time home buyers or those who have not owned a home in the past three years will qualify for a $7500 tax credit. This credit will be repayable over fifteen years, interest free. This provision will hopefully stimulate buyers who are unsure if they want to enter the real estate market by providing them with an interest free loan.
But there is a deadline. You have to purchase the real estate until next summer to get the benefits.
Prices might not go down any further either, because sellers now also see a chance for getting their price.

Volcano Surfer
It's hard to imagine why pro-surfer C J Kanuha paddled within 20ft of the lava, but the water was so hot that it was melting off his board and he burned his feet. I hope this is not a trend of people trying to copy this, that would be just insane. Anyway check it out the footage is pretty astonishing.

Hawaii Solar Water Heater Breakthrough
Solar water heaters in Hawaii? Yeah of course - I think it is common sense. Gov. Lingle signed a bill that will require home builders to include a solar water heater system by 2010. I think it is about 20 years late, but better now than never. In Hawaii we have a lot of natural power sources. Geothermal (which makes 25% of our Big Island power), solar, wind and I think that even the ocean could be utilized (as the Mokapu Marine Base tidal power project is showing).
The law is only for new homes (you will have to have to include the solar water system in your plans to get a building permit issued). It is said that some exceptions will be ranted for home builders in forested areas, so will see if some of Puna area will fall under that exception.
